Patients with moderate or severe periodontitis have to risk assessment for the heart
More research is required, and patients with moderate or severe periodontal disease assessment and possible treatment to reduce the risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (CVD), according to a consensus document of editors of the Journal of American Journal Peridontology of Cardiology and the 1st July 2009 edition of the American Journal of Cardiology.
Periodontitis, a bacterial-induced, localized, chronic inflammatory disease, destroys the tissue and bones, teeth. Periodontitis is mild to moderate forms, 30 to 50% of adults and the spread of severe, 5 to 15% of adults in the United States. In addition, there are now strong reasons to periodontitis that people are at increased risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease - the accumulation of fat in the products of the blood vessel wall.
The explanation of the relationship between periodontitis and atherosclerotic CVD is not yet clear, but one of the leading candidates is an inflammation, the immune system. In recent years, inflammation is an important active participants in many chronic diseases. Other statements of periodontitis and atherosclerotic CVD are risk factors such as smoking, diabetes, genetics, mental anxiety, depression, obesity and physical inactivity.
Whatever the cause, the Panel considers that the current is strong enough to recommend that doctors assess atherosclerotic CVD in their patients to periodontitis. Research suggests that patients with moderate or severe periodontitis should, indeed, that perhaps an increased risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases in the context of periodontitis, and patients with one or more major risk factor known for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, a medical assessment, if it is not done in the past 12 months.
