Platypus link ovarian cancer
Researchers from the Royal Adelaide Hospital and the University of Adelaide, our oldest mammals on can help us better understand the ovarian cancer.
University of Adelaide geneticist, said Dr. Frank Grützner mapping the DNA of animals Schnabel reached a interesting relationship between the sex chromosomes and DNA sequences in human ovarian cancer.
"We found DNA on the sex chromosomes of animals that spout, such as DNA, is assigned to the ovary and other reproductive diseases, such as male infertility," said Dr. Grützner.
"Cancer is often a large number of modifications of DNA, and it is difficult to decide which are important for the development of disease. The comparison with species such as beaked deleted animals helps us to identify the main DNA sequences, preserved by the evolution over millions of years.
"We are delighted that the analysis of the genome of animals beak gives us new avenues in studying the molecular basis of ovarian cancer.
In collaboration with Dr. Grützner is Assoc. Martin Oehler, a gynecological examination of the ovary, oncologist specializing in the treatment, the Royal Adelaide Hospital, which says it is new ways to fight against the disease.
"We hope that this research could one day lead to the development of a test and early diagnosis, effective therapy against ovarian cancer," says Oehler.
"Ovarian cancer is the gynecological cancer death and is regarded as the 6th leading cause of cancer deaths in women in Australia."
Both Dr. and Dr. Oehler Grützner that applications of this research are not limited to ovarian cancer, as they try to understand a number of diseases.
