New treatment found to prevent, heart failure

U.S. scientists say implantable cardiac resynchronization device may be a reduction of 29 percent of heart failure or death in the heart of the patient.

University of Rochester Medical Center, said researchers, the results of a 4 1/2-year clinical studies that over 1,800 patients in the United States, Canada and Europe. Some of the patients was a cardiac resynchronization therapy device implanted defibrillator and received implantation of a cardiac defibrillator.

The study, under the direction of Dr. Arthur Moss, the end of last week.

A previous study by Moss and collaborators in 2002 found implantable defibrillators have been effective in reducing mortality. The new study, to determine whether cardiac resynchronization devices with defibrillators, the risk of death and heart failure.

Moss said that the results are very positive.

"Now, we can prevent sudden cardiac death and hamper the development of heart failure, for the survival and improved outcomes in patients with heart disease," said Moss. "This is a very large number of patients with heart disease, who benefit from this combination therapy.
